1. Introduction – Stepping into the World of Manufacturing
As product design students at ISDI Mumbai, we recently had the chance to visit Atomberg Technologies in Pune, Asia’s largest BLDC manufacturing unit, producing up to 10 lakh units per month. Walking into the plant was an eye opening experience we got to witness firsthand how ideas on paper transform into real, market ready products.

2. Understanding the Journey from Concept to Market
One of the most fascinating parts of the visit was seeing the entire journey of a product. From procuring raw materials across different units, to component check ins, validations, and finally, testing and delivery, every step showed us the complexity behind what seems like a simple fan. It was amazing to see how much planning, coordination, and precision goes into making each product perfect.

3. Experiencing the Assembly Line
The assembly line was like watching a symphony of parts come together. Seeing individual components merge seamlessly into a finished product made us appreciate the effort and skill involved. It was inspiring to witness how teamwork, engineering, and design thinking all intersect on the factory floor.
4. Learning in the CMF Workshop
The CMF (Color, Material, Finish) workshop left a lasting impression. Watching the layered coating processes, both liquid and powder based, showed us how the look and feel of a product is carefully crafted based on consumer preferences and market trends. It made us realize that product design isn’t just about functionality; it’s also about creating an experience that appeals visually and tactilely.

5. Key Takeaways
We are incredibly grateful to Utkarsh Gautam and the Atomberg team for guiding us through the plant and making the visit so smooth and insightful. This experience gave us a deeper understanding of real world product design and manufacturing and inspired us to think more critically about how our own ideas could eventually reach the market.
