1. Stepping into Healthcare Innovation
I recently completed my internship at Medical Innovation Creativity and Entrepreneurship (M.I.C.E) Labs. Walking into a government hospital as a product design intern was both exciting and eye opening. From day one, I was immersed in an environment where clinicians and engineers worked together to solve real world healthcare challenges.

2. Projects and Hands-On Experience
During my internship, I had the opportunity to work on multiple projects, including designing patient specific 3D printed splints for occupational therapy, creating physiotherapy aids like foot wedges, redesigning a vein finder device for improved usability, contributing to an early childhood development app, and developing lab communication materials and visuals. Each project offered a unique perspective on solving healthcare problems through design.

3. Learning Through Prototyping and Design
The internship allowed me to strengthen my skills in prototyping and user centered design. Working in a fast paced, interdisciplinary environment taught me how to iterate ideas quickly while considering real world constraints such as usability, patient comfort, and clinical requirements. It was fascinating to see design ideas transition from sketches to functional prototypes that could directly impact patient care.
4. Personal Growth and Reflection
Beyond technical skills, this internship helped me grow personally. I developed patience, empathy, and a deep sense of responsibility, understanding that the solutions I design can directly affect people’s lives. Collaborating closely with doctors, engineers, and therapists also showed me the importance of teamwork and communication in creating meaningful healthcare solutions.

5. Gratitude and Takeaways
I am incredibly grateful to Dr. Zeenal Punamiya and Shravani Desai for their guidance and support, and to Dr. Aniruddha Malpani for giving me this opportunity and fostering an environment that truly encourages innovation and learning. This internship was a transformative experience that deepened my understanding of healthcare design and reinforced my passion for creating solutions that make a difference.
